Vantage Safety & Ethics - Environmental, Health and Safety Protection

Vantage Engineering Inc. places a strong emphasis on health, safety and environmental protection. We can implement stand-alone procedures or can develop client specific controls to be integrated into our clients own programs to ensure they meet and, where possible, exceed prevailing regulatory requirements. As an engineering firm we are legally bound by APEGGA's Code of Ethics and follow the APEGGA "Guideline for Ethical Practice", the APEGGA "Guideline for Environmental Practice" and the APEGGA guideline for "Basic Learnings in Industrial Safety and Loss Management" as well as the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act. Our corporate mission is to provide socially and environmentally responsible solutions to the oil and gas sector and we always strive to exceed governing regulations. We believe acting responsibly to protect the health and safety of our employees and the general public is not merely a choice, but is in fact, an absolute necessity. Maintaining a healthy workplace, operating safely and protecting the environment are the responsibility of every Vantage staff member and both they and our contractors take that responsibility very seriously.

Our staff and our contractors are well versed on established standards and performance expectations. Site managers ensure staff and contractors are competent to perform their work safely, are aware of environmental, health and safety hazards and comply with appropriate safe operating practices. In addition to monitoring on-site performance, trained personnel are available to deal with unplanned events in order to minimize potential risks to staff, local residents and the environment.

Ultimately:

  • We conduct our operations in a manner that protects the health and safety of our employees, contractors and the public.
  • We comply with the intent and specific requirements of all health and safety laws and regulations. Compliance with the law and Vantage's policies and practices are the responsibility of every worker (employees and contractors) and is a condition of employment.
  • We do not knowingly place workers or the public at risk and will not support any decision that compromises safety for the sake of any other business objective. Workers are expected to take action on any unsafe conditions.
  • We provide, and all staff are expected to complete, the training needed to operate in a safe and healthy manner.
  • We maintain effective emergency response procedures, train staff in their use and conduct simulated emergencies to test the effectiveness of established plans.
  • We regularly review safety and loss performance, conduct safety audits and share those results with staff and contractors in order to identify strengths and opportunities for improvement.
  • We continue to evaluate and improve policies and operating practices taking into account changes in laws and regulations, technical developments, industry standards and Vantage's operations.
  • We are diligent in immediately reporting any situation that could impact the public to the appropriate regulatory agency and cooperate fully with them. We will be partners with the regulators and the affected communities in keeping the public informed and bringing the situation or emergency to a satisfactory conclusion.
