Intermediate/Senior Electrical/Instrumentation Engineer
Qualifications
B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering with a Canadian P. Eng. designation
Be eligible for immediate registration with APEGGA, and have been registered with a recognized Canadian Professional Association for at least three (3) years
Superior knowledge of applicable Canadian codes and standards governing electrical design, equipment and construction
15+ years electrical engineering experience in the western Canadian Oil and Gas and Energy industries
Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications. Only education obtained from an accredited institution will be recognized as meeting the minimum qualifications.
Duties
The Electrical Engineer's duties are specific to each project. However, in general, hey include:
Maintaining and trouble-shooting existing systems
Liaising between Vantage and electrical engineering sub-contractors
Developing test and quality control procedures to ensure that products meet quality specifications and safety standards
Prepare and review electrical and instrumentation designs and documentation
Maintain critical project information, drawings, files, spreadsheets and records
Author electrical data sheets, technical specifications, technical bid evaluations, review vendor drawings and data for compliance with project requirements
Produce electrical engineering classifications and facility designs including Area Classifications, Single Line Diagrams, Power System Analysis, Power Distribution Layouts, Lighting Designs, Motor Schematics, Instrumentation wiring layouts, Electrical heat tracing, Grounding Layouts.
Participate in design reviews with other disciplines to review technical issues and provide input into constructability and operability
Provide in-house electrical technical expertise to other disciplines
Prepare engineering man-hour and discipline estimates
Preform/supervise preparation of cost estimates, project planning, scheduling and cost control
Inspect equipment during fabrication to ensure compliance with specifications
Shutdown Key Design
Familiarity with control System design and programming
Review and prepare the preparation of design drawings for construction.
Review and prepare electrical power systems studies and calculations.
Review and prepare technical reports, and Client correspondences/presentations.
Review and prepare detailed specifications and contract documents for:
Construction document packages
Review drawing/documents
Assist in the preparation of the technical portions of Procurement documents (RFQs, POs)
Review equipment tenders and vendor documents
Assist in the coordination of project design activities
Coordinate design work with other disciplines, other offices and other project team members.
Study design proposals, write reports and make recommendations regarding the design, development or manufacture of products and systems
Prepare contract documents such as drawings and specifications for project construction
Mentor and train less experienced staff
